In spring 2015, the English department will be offering one of the certificate core classes, ENGL 7960: Teaching English in the Two Year College, as well as several other courses that could count for the certificate, including ENGL 8600: Writing Assessment, which is being offered once each week on Monday nights.

Taught by Dr. Nicole Caswell, this course focuses on key issues that TYC teachers face, particularly around how, when, where, and why we assess students, from placement into college to classroom-based assessments, to larger, programmatic assessments that we use to determine the success (or not) of our courses/programs. This courses is offered Monday nights from 6:30 – 9:30.

Dr. Will Banks will be teaching English 7960: Teaching English in the Two Year College on Tuesday nights from 6:30 – 9:30.  This courses explores the various types of English courses that TYC teachers might teach and provides guidance to students on how to design a course, develop a syllabus, and create innovative teaching activities that can engage the diversity of students found in the TYC environment.
